You should identify the questions you have about the surgery and the entire process and get answers to them during the examination.
I believe that in-person examination is valuable for both the patient and the doctor. With an in-person examination, the structure of the ear can be assessed more effectively, and the patient’s expectations can be better understood. If in-person examination is not possible due to distances, you can contact us for remote examination options.
Before coming for the examination, you should identify any concerns you have about your ears. You can click here to examine the conditions leading to prominent ear issues and compare them with your own ears.
In patients with prominent ears, one common issue I sometimes observe is that their perceptions about the structure and positioning of a normal, inconspicuous ear on the head may not always be realistic. One of the most common situations I encounter is when the patient desires their ears to be closer to the head than what is considered normal. Therefore, before coming for the examination, I recommend that you examine the ear structures of individuals around you who do not have prominent ear issues, observe how visible their ears are from various angles, their symmetry, and their positioning on the head. This way, you’ll gain a more realistic understanding of an inconspicuous, average ear, and your expectations regarding the surgery outcome will become more realistic.
During the examination, I show the patient the possible shape their ear can achieve through surgery in front of a mirror. This shape, of course, does not exactly represent the surgical result, but it provides valuable information about the patient’s expectations regarding the desired ear shape through surgery. It helps me determine whether these expectations can be met through the surgery.
During the examination, if you have any medical conditions, past surgeries, or if you regularly or intermittently use medication, vitamins, or dietary supplements, you should inform us about them. Based on this information, adjustments may be necessary for the course of the surgery or with regards to the medication, vitamins, and dietary supplements you are taking. You should not make these adjustments without consulting with us or the doctor who prescribed the medication to you.
During this consultation, you will receive detailed information about the course of the surgery and the post-operative process, things to be mindful of, potential issues you may encounter, medications you need to take, rest, and more. Specific complications that may arise after the surgery, whether unique to the procedure or related to your individual circumstances, will be discussed with you openly.
As a result of all of this, we make a joint decision with the patient regarding the surgery, and if it is deemed suitable, the surgery appointment will be scheduled by my assistant, Ms. Afra.
